Sometimes enjoying our wild areas means having encounters with wildlife–most are good, some are not.Unfortunately, this weekend a three year old boy was attacked by a mountain lion at Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park in Lake Forest. The family was able to scare away the cougar by throwing a backpack at it and they rushed the boy back to the trailhead where he was taken to a nearby hospital. Please always be aware of your surroundings, know how to respond to wildlife encounters, and know where you are so help can more easily reach you. (Note: this means staying on designated [park approved] trails.)
