WCB Declines Land Exchange

with No Comments

Yesterday, during a more than four hour hearing, FHBP consultant Melanie Schlotterbeck testified for 90 seconds(!) before the Wildlife Conservation Board (WCB). On the agenda was a proposed land exchange. In other words, lands already protected by WCB would not only lose their conservation status, but also be built on. And, the replacement lands would be of less ecological value and not support the Quino Checkerspot Butterfly. This would have set a terrible precedent and we strongly opposed the exchange. Congratulations to Endangered Habitats League for spearheading the successful effort, as the final vote was 5-1 to NOT support the exchange. ??
